Boot Camp for the Real World
I firmly believe that living in a big family has its advantages. I like to think of our big family as boot camp for the real world. Nothing against small families – I just think there are some good life lessons we learn as part of a big family that prepares us for life in the real world. This is my list – not necessarily in order of priority.
- Being part of a big family teaches us to get along with others to respect their needs and wants – to take turns.
- Living in a big family is like having insurance that you won’t grow up spoiled.
- Experience is on your side.
- Great preparation for parenthood.
- You’ll always have lots of hands available when you need them.
- You’ll rarely have to stand alone against the world.
- You will always have company wherever you go.
- It’s like having your own social network.
- Family gatherings are more fun.
- Your wardrobe is larger.
- You sure know how to share.
- You’ll have lots of help planning weddings and funerals.
