Boot Camp for the Real World

I firmly believe that living in a big family has its advantages. I like to think of our big family as boot camp for the real world. Nothing against small families – I just think there are some good life lessons we learn as part of a big family that prepares us for life in the real world. This is my list – not necessarily in order of priority.

  1. Being part of a big family teaches us to get along with others to respect their needs and wants – to take turns.
  2. Living in a big family is like having insurance that you won’t grow up spoiled.
  3. Experience is on your side.
  4. Great preparation for parenthood.
  5. You’ll always have lots of hands available when you need them.
  6. You’ll rarely  have to stand alone against the world.
  7. You will always have company wherever you go.
  8. It’s like having your own social network.
  9. Family gatherings are more fun.
  10. Your wardrobe is larger.
  11. You sure know how to share.
  12. You’ll have lots of help planning weddings and funerals.
